fibre yarn fabric a space where people can experience yarn and fabric production from start to finish. Learning about, researching, practising, making, working with animal, vegetable, reclaimed and recycled fibres to make durable, useful, beautiful fabrics.
I'm Lynn Cook, I learned to weave in the 1990s at North Adelaide School of Art, South Australia. At the time I bought a floor loom, second hand, and made blankets, rugs and cloth. When I moved back to Sydney, I didn't have space for the loom so sold it.
In 2014 I was given an 8-shaft table loom, and I started weaving again. Another gift was an Ashford Sample-it rigid heddle loom, a basic loom, very good for quickly making a scarf, or weaving samples. In 2019 I bought another floor loom, again second hand. The loom came with a large amount of rug wool and weaving reference books.
In May 2022 I took a studio at MakerSpace&Co at Gerald Street, Marrickville and had the floor loom, table loom and rigid heddle loom there. It was great to be part of the creative community there, and to demonstrate weaving on the floor loom during MakerSpace's August Open Studio.
At the end of 2022 I was given another table loom, four shafts, and another floor loom. I've moved all the looms to a bigger studio at 1 Mitchell Street, Marrickville. It's opposite Bourke Street bakery and above Wastewood. Good neighbours.
